In the summer of 2016 I lived in Ibiza. I played 50 sunsets on the Spanish island and across the Mediterranean in Italy. When the season was over, reflecting on this busy time, I decided that my favourite place wasn’t so much one physical place, it was more a feeling that occurred at a certain time of day. My favourite place was anywhere, just before sunset, especially if there was a clear view of the sun setting into the sea. Thinking about that moment and trying to capture the magic of the feeling that it generates became the starting motivation for making this album. After many discussions with friends and musical colleagues I also came to the conclusion that the illusive thing called Balearic music did not have to be made in Ibiza, or even in the summer. It is often a memory trigger, a longing, a version of a moment in time reinterpreted through the medium of sound. Only one tune in this collection is actually made in Ibiza, the others are mostly collaborations with other artists from more northern places. But they were all started in the sunshine on that special island. They are all made with the vision and the residual memory of the Mediterranean sun in ou r heads.
